Renewable Energy Credits aka Green Electricity
Renewable Energy Credits (RECs) are Good for Your Business
A REC represents the positive environmental attributes of renewable power. These
attributes are marketed and sold separately from the underlying commodity - electricity. Commercial
Energy has contracted with the Green-e program based in San Francisco to certify the Renewable
Energy Credits (RECs) that we offer to our clients. When your company invests in RECs through CE, the
money flows directly to the actual generator of the renewable energy, allowing these developers
to re-invest in new or expanded capacity. Your business can use the positive publicity by posting
it to your website, in your lobby, on your product(s) packaging and in the local media. This healthy
corporate publicity may help recruit new employees as well as satisfy your existing employees about
your commitment to a healthy workplace. In the immediate future, it can distinguish your company from
its competitors. To date, companies as diverse, and as notable, as Wells Fargo, Pepsico, and Starbucks
have made significant investments in RECs to offset their electricity usage in 2007 and beyond.
"Be Green" - Our Vision for a Better Energy Future
|
Given Commercial Energy's history as a pioneer in developing competitive energy markets, it is not
surprising that we would offer RECs before much has been written about them in the mass media. Our
"Be Green" products allow you to individually define how many RECs you want or need, as well as determine
the source of generation, whether wind, biomass, solar, or otherwise. As always, we will help you define
and meet your renewable energy goals just as we have helped you meet your natural gas needs over the past
ten years.

the sun and directed its light to the receiver at the top of the tower.

Our Philosophy on Competitive Energy Markets
We believe that customers are the best source and location for new products and services that can relieve
the peak demand strain on the energy grid. But we also know that these creative forces cannot be effectively
unleashed without a competitive market option. Open markets create better-informed, more engaged customers
who participate more meaningfully in the debates about energy markets. In December 2006, the California PUC
opened a Rulemaking to evaluate opening electricity choice to businesses, similar to the choices offered for
natural gas. The California Legislature also passed SB1078 that requires, by 2011, that 20% of all electricity
consumed in state be produced from Renewable Generators that came in service since 2005. Our "Be Green" products
are a VOLUNTARY method for your company to meet or exceed the State's renewable energy goals while sending a
message that the private sector is doing its part without governmental intrusion.
